This guide will help you install mods on your Valheim client.

Mods are a wonderful addition to Valheim if you are looking for a more immersive experience. They can add new mechanics, items, textures, etc., changing the experience of the vanilla game.

⚠ NOTE ⚠: Mods files for Valheim are .dll files.
If you are running a modded Valheim server, you will have to install the same mods on your client to be able to join.

📝 Where Do You Find Mods 📝

The first step is to find mods that fit your needs and download them. To do so, follow the next steps:

Go to the Valheim section of Nexus.


Search for the desired mod and click on it.




Click on Files, find your desired version, and click on Manual Download.



⚠ NOTE ⚠: Most of the mods you download from Nexus will come as ZIP or RAR files, and you will have to right-click on them and click on Extract All to get the .dll mod file.

Now you've just downloaded the mods you want.

🚀 How to Set up BepInEx or Valeheim Plus 🚀

To be able to run mods on your client, you will have to first set up BepInEx or Valheim Plus.

💠 BepInEx

BepInEx is a plugin loader that you can add to your Valheim client to be able to run mods.

To install BepInEx you will need to:

Go here to the official GitHub page of BepInEx.


Find the latest release and download the appropriate Windows version.




Right-click on the file you just downloaded and click on Extract All.




Open your Valheim installation folder. To find it open Steam, click on Valheim, then on the gear icon, and on Properties. Then click on Local Files and on Browse....






Paste the content of the file you unzipped at step number three in your Valheim installation folder.



Now you just set up BepInEx on your client.

💠 Valheim Plus

Valheim Plus is a mod that aims to improve the gameplay quality of Valheim. This mod already includes BepInEx, so if you set it up, you also set up your plugin loader once with it.

To install Valheim Plus, you will need to:

Go here on the official GitHub page of the mod.


Find the latest release of the mod and download the Windows client version.




Right-click on the file you just downloaded and click on Extract All.




Open your Valheim installation folder. To find it, open Steam, click on Valheim, then on the gear icon, and on Properties. Then click on Local Files and on Browse....






Paste the content of the file you unzipped at step number three in your Valheim installation folder.

Now you just set up Valheim Plus on your client.

🔩 How to Add Mods 🔩

Now that you've set up BepInEx or Valheim Plus, you just need to add your mods.

To do so, follow the next steps:

Open your Valheim installation folder. To find it, open Steam, click on Valheim, then on the gear icon, and on Properties. Then click on Local Files and on Browse....






Open the BepInEx folder, then the plugins folder.






Paste your mods into the plugins folder.




Start your game.

Now you just set up mods on your client!
