How to Change Your Server Type and Version

This article will show you how to change your server version and type.

❓ What Is The Server Type ❓

The Server Type section from your main Multicraft page represents the jar file that the server will load when it will be started.

All jar files of the server can be found in the jar folder, from the root directory of the server.

If you want to use a custom jar file, see our guide here.
If you want to upgrade your server version and keep your world, please be aware you must update it one version at a time otherwise your world may be corrupted!

⚠ Important Notes ⚠

We recommend that you do a backup before any server type change. We have a guide showing how to do that here.

Please note that it is not recommended to change to older versions without generating a new world, otherwise the server will crash.

If you change from Vanilla to Spigot or Paper, it is recommended to keep the same Minecraft version.

If you are changing to or from a modpack changing just the server type will make the server crash. You need to do a clean install (see below).

If you want to change your server type to a modpack, we’ll follow the same method but it will have a couple of different steps. You will need to do a clean install that will delete all your server files when switching to a modpack. The first step is to click Stop.

Choose a Modpack to Install

Scroll down till you see the Server Type option. Click on the blue box and click on the modpack you would like to use.
