How to Manually Install a Modpack on Your Server

This article will show you how to properly install a modpack manually on your server.

To set up your modpack you will have to first install Forge in your server, then add the other modpack files manually.

We will use as an example the modpack called RLCraft which is running of Forge 1.12.2.

⚠ Important Notes ⚠

If your server does not provide a server pack then it is most likely not compatible with a server and it will not work properly. It is best to choose modpacks that are providing a Server Pack. If they are not, you will have to get the modpack files directly from your instance of it on your PC.

Please note that nearly any modpack requires at least 4GB RAM to run properly. We have a guide here explaining the RAM.

It is recommended you download via FileZilla a copy of your full server files before starting the process as they will be wiped. Here is our guide for using FileZilla.

We do not recommend adding extra mods to an already existing modpack as this can cause issues.

📻 Installing Forge 📻

The first step is to do a clean install of the Forge version your modpack is running:

Log in to your Multicraft panel here and stop your server.

Stop Your Server

Find the Server Type option and change it to Forge selecting the desired version.

Server Type

Click Yes on the pop-up window to continue the process.

Click on Yes to do a clean install that will delete all your server files, then click on Ok on the following pop-up window.

Ok

ATTENTION - Be sure to back up your files using FileZilla before the process as they will be wiped! Here is our guide for using FileZilla.

Start Your Server

You can now start your server with the Forge version you selected.

Start Your Server

Now you just installed on the server the Forge version your modpack is running.

You can also set up manually Forge, we have a guide for doing so here.

🔩 Installing the Modpack Files 🔩

Usually, any modpack that is made to run on a server is providing a Server Pack on the official page that you can download to get the server files.

NOTE: If the Server Pack is not posted on the official page, then this usually means that your modpack is not made to be played on a server, but in single-player.

We will use as an example the modpack called RLCraft.

To install the modpack files you need to:

Go to the official page of the modpack and download the Server Pack. In our case, we will go to the official page of the RLCraft modpack.

Server Pack

Extract the ZIP file content you just downloaded in a folder on your PC, then log in to your Multicraft pane here and stop your server.

Stop Your Server

Use Filezilla to upload all files and folders besides the libraries folder (if there is one) to your server root directory.

The root directory is the one that contains all other files and folders.

Here is our guide for using Filezilla.

Start your server.

Now you just set up manually your modpack on the server.
